One of many walkaways seen in the garden, the princess is in a somber mood, the breeze caressing her skin. Grace kept walking quietly behind her as she immediately broke the silence. “There is a function for me tonight…” Princess Judith started. “Oh…err….what’s that? Anything we need to get you prepared for?” Grace asked. “Err…yea, absolutely! I’m nervous….I..err…its some kind of initiation. You know my dad became king not quite long, and they say its the custom here for me to get initiated to…I really don’t know…being a princess?…urggh…its so much work to be one. I have a lot to prepare, my robe – I have to look really elegant, the speech I have to give…bla bla bla” the princess replied. “Initiation? Sounds interesting” Grace said.
“I don’t think its that interesting….I mean I’m not the one on the throne, why do I need to do all these unnecessary things?” the princess said with a dissatisfied tone. “I really don’t think its unnecessary Your Highness. If I were in your shoes, I would be the happiest person on earth…..my dad is a king….i’m a princess…..i’d be really happy. I’ve always to be Barbie” Grace replied, smiling. The princess slightly brushed her hand through the flowers next to her, feeling their tenderness. To her, life had just been made miserable. She was enjoying her life just before she became a princess. She had the freedom to wear her fancy clothes – bomb shorts, crop tops and the likes, but now she had to always dress as a good example to every other maiden – in expensive royal costumes as she called it. Before she became a princess, she had the choice of either attending special occasions in the palace or staying in her room all day with her phone – which she always chose, but now there was no such thing as choice, she had to go for all special occasions the princess had to attend. “Initiation…..really? And worst of all…a robe? Just shoot me…..I feel my life has been turned upside down” she lamented as she turned to face Grace. “Which part of the country did you come from?” she asked Grace. “The West….err..Canaan.” Grace replied. Judith scoffed and said “Really? You were far away from villages I see…..oh…now I get why all these are amazing to you. You won’t know how frustrated I am. You know….here, every Thursdays everyone has to put on the cultural wears, here in the palace especially. You know what I used to do? I would stay indoors so I wouldn’t have to go about in discomforting clothes, but now I don’t have a choice, I have to do away with my phone sometimes for some sickening occasions.” Grace plucked a flower and placed it carefully on the princess’ long dark hair “I once visited a village, I think I was twelve then. I swear…..it was nothing compared to it here. Its amazing here in Dutch. When i first got here, i kept looking around. Gigantic buildings……oh and when i saw you……oh my God……you caught my attention, if i were a guy….i would have just fallen for you……errrr…..i think i did” she said, smiling gracefully. “How ironic…..I love visting the city. Its so beautiful there, you are not restricted in dressing or your way of life…….but here you are liking it here. Anyways, i have to face my fate here, what do i do? Dress, Speech? The whole occassion” She asked Grace. “We could start somewhere…..and your speech…we still have the whole day to prepare for that” she said. The princess smiled and said “Oh….yea, You know…i.. err…never got a servant before my dad became king. Every other maiden in the palace had, minister’s daughters and all of them, but my dad didn’t get me one even though I wanted one so much.” “Oh…so why didn’t he get you one?” Grace asked. “He said he wanted me to be fine on my own without the help of any servant, and again that he needed to protect me. I don’t know from what…..You know…sometimes he sounds really scary. If not because a princess in this land must have her attendants with one of them really close to her, he wouldn’t have gotten me one…..then I wouldn’t have met you” the princess said. “Hmm….so….Your Highness, where would the ceremony take place? To know how to make arrangements for transportation.” Grace asked. “A hotel at Greenland, Tantalus.” The princess replied. Grace quizzed as she remarked “Tantalus? Sounds like its gonna be a big place. Can anyone just go there?” she asked. She princess scoffed as she answered “No, very wealthy people go there” “I’ve never been to a hotel before, i cant wait to be there…..let me go get a car prepared.” Grace said. Princess Judith smiled and said “Dont worry, from now on you will go places….places you have never been. And….you don’t need to worry about our transportation there, His Majesty has prepared everything. You only need to get me ready physically, emotionally.” Grace’s heart melted at the words she heard. Her life was going to be filled with sweetness even though she knew she would forever live with the pain of her parents’ death. “We should go get you prepared Your Highness” she said. They left for the princess’ quarters. On getting there, a maid came from the Queen with an elegant robe. “Greetings Your Highness” the maid said with her head bowed. “Morning” the princess replied, Grace greeted the maid as well. “Her Majesty sent me to hand this robe over to you. She wants you to wear it to the initiation ceremony. She also said you need to prepare your speech carefully since other royalties would be present. You need to show yourself worthy before them all, so she wants you to…..” the maid said as the princess cut in “I’ve got all that covered. She doesn’t have to worry about my speech, tell her that. And tell her thanks for the robe, I’ll see her later.” She said and dismissed the maid. “Wow! This is wonderful” Grace admired the robe. “Hmmm its cool, mum….Her Majesty has an eye for wonderful things. I trust her judgement when it comes to fashion. I believe this is just perfect for the occasion.” The princess said. Grace paused for a while and said “Her Majesty wanted to personally prepare you for your speech, why did you turn that down?” “Its high time she allows me to grow up and handle things myself. I’ve got you, so I don’t have anything to fear.” The princess said firmly. Grace became mute as she was overwhelmed by the confidence the princess had in her “Your Highness…..you really have faith in me….this occasion is really important to you, why are you trusting me with something so important……I mean….you don’t even know me well yet” she said. Princess Judith laughed and said “Oh…..err….maybe I should just take the offer of Her Majesty then….it seems you don’t have enough confidence in yourself, so why do I need to risk that too?” Grace looked down, embarrassed and the princess moved closer to her, placed her hand on Grace’s shoulder and said “Grace, for me to have so great faith in you, you are worth it. I see you are not gonna let me down. When I met you, I saw something in you…..that you could make me a better version of myself……err….forget the whole sermon. Let’s get started.”
